Why Your Hair Feels Dry Even After Moisturising

You’ve applied your leave-in conditioner, added some oil and followed your usual routine,so why does your hair still feel dry?

Dry hair after moisturising is common, especially for curly, coily and textured hair. It does not always mean you need more product. Sometimes, your hair needs more water, better product distribution or a reset from buildup.

Here are some common reasons your hair may still feel dry.

You’re applying product to dry hair

Moisturising products usually work best on damp hair. Water provides the moisture. Leave-in conditioner helps soften the hair and retain that moisture.
Applying product to completely dry hair may leave it feeling coated rather than hydrated.

  • Try this: Lightly mist your hair with water before applying your leave-in conditioner

You're using oil As A moisturiser

Hair oil can help add shine and softness. It can also help slow down moisture loss.
However, oil does not replace water. Applying oil to dry hair may make it look shiny while it still feels dry underneath.

  • Try this: Apply a water-based leave-in conditioner first, then use a small amount of oil to seal in the moisture.

You’re using too much product

More product does not always mean more moisture. Layering too many creams and oils can weigh the hair down.
It may also leave your hair feeling heavy without actually improving hydration.

  • Try this: Refresh your hair with water first, then apply a smaller amount of leave-in conditioner.
